Hennings’ Vineyard is part of a family owned farm that was established by Henning Rathjen in 1858.
Hennings’ Vineyard produces small quantities of premium Heathcote Shiraz, Viognier and Verdelho. Traditional wine making techniques reflect the ethic employed in the vineyard of minimal intervention ensuring the bewitching quality of the fruit retains its integrity. In 1998 Darryl Rathjen, Hennings’ great grandson, replanted the vineyard on the original site and the first vintage of “Hennings Shiraz” was produced in 2000. After many long years of restoration, Hennings’ original wine cellar was re-opened in 2012 for tastings and wine sales. This historic building is unique amongst the cellar doors in this region. The cellar was built in the 1870’s from red-gum milled on the property. It is a structure that tells a story of labour and persistence in the difficult times of early settlement, and it is a unique testament to Hennings’ passion for winemaking. Our Cellar is open on the third weekend of every month (Sat & Sun 11-5) or by appointment.
