With the ambition to produce full flavoured red wines, Greg and Helen Miles began their search for a vineyard site. In 1997 they established a 4 hectare vineyard at Metcalfe, in the Heathcote wine region, south of Redesdale.
It was planted predominantly with Shiraz, and some Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Riesling. The property offers a gentle north facing slope on well drained, granitic soil and has an ideal microclimate, all of which ensures that some of the finest wines of the region are grown at Coliban Valley Vineyard.
Even in its early days the vineyard produced outstanding wines winning several trophies and, in 2007, the winery achieved a 5-star rating from James Halliday. All wines are estate grown, produced and bottled from our low yielding, unirrigated vines. It is a rewarding labour of love; both vines and wines are hand tended to deliver the best each season has to offer.
Up to 450 cases of wine are produced annually. The wine style is fruit driven and reflective of the growing season and the terroir. Due to the small production wines are sold mainly through cellar door and by mail order. Join our mailing list today to include Coliban Valley wines in your cellar.
