About

Colbinabbin Estate was planted in 1998 and owns 156 acres of vines in the Heathcote Geographic Indicator. The vineyard is located 25 km north of the Heathcote township on the Eastern side of the Mt Camel range on deep, ancient Cambrian soil.

We have a very simple philosophy – “The Best Wines are Born in the Vineyard”.
We therefore devote considerable time and effort to ensure that every step in the viticultural process is well planned and executed insisting on delivering quality in all of our activities. This results in consistent high-grade fruit year in and year out.

The deep Cambrian soil and our largely organic process enable the vineyard to reflect “place” and the unique characteristics of Heathcote.

Our business model is to supply grapes to leading winemakers who are passionate about Heathcote. Varietals available include Shiraz, Cabernet, Durif, Zinfandel, Verdelho, Marsanne and Petit Verdot.

We also take great pride in offering wines for sale, however the only method of obtaining these gems is via our mailing list …so sign up or call us!

The Vineyard
We have the following acres under vine –

Shiraz
110 acres planted 1998,2000 and 2001, both own roots and grafted.
Clones include PT23
Rootstock includes Kobar and Swartzman

Cabernet
30 acres – Reynella clone, own roots.
Planted 1999

Durif
8 acres – Griffith clone on Swartzman
Planted 2001

Petit Verdot
1.1 acre – planted 1999

Zinfandel
1.8 acre – planted 1999

Marsanne
1.0 acre – planted 1999

Verdelho
1.4 acre – planted 1999

The entire vineyard is on ancient Cambrian soil. We have a 100 megalitre water entitlement from the Goulburn River (Waranga Channel) and our own pipeline to ensure water security. On average we use less than 1 megalitre of water per hectare. The oldest part of the vineyard is usually un-irrigated due to the depth of the top soil and age of the vines.
