Our region produces a wide variety of wine styles but is most famous for its deeply flavoured, long lived Shiraz. Our region is also famous for its ancient 'Cambrian Soil' on which many Heathcote Vineyards are planted. Cambrian soil is a red soil derived from the decomposition of the cambrian volcanic basalt from the Cambrian age, over 500 million years ago, and is rich in iron-oxide. Cambrian soil is deep, well drained and produces wines high in natural acidity.
